we got this place for well under market
1.7 million dollars
yeah there’s some work for sure
but there’s no denying
all of the views of the horizon
they leak a little but the windows are panoramic
the sky meets the sea, it’s fantastic
I close my eyes against the sun off your upper railing
from way up here all the boats down there are smoothly sailing
from a distance most things are beautiful
from way up here the details don’t bother you
you’re talking about horizons
maybe I’m not getting it
a separation in spaces
you live on the midline
between infinite and abyss
I don’t know if either exist

Ruins of Rome

wine on your patio
the sound of your voice
guess we both have to know
we don’t have a choice
about the way winter’s coming on
I’m not much for the cold
you say you like how it covers up
all the trash with the snow
makes the city a silent film
you in a corduroy coat
watch it fall from the balcony
I love you more than you know
the planes were loud overhead
I could still get the point
I would follow your thinest thread
from Japan to Detroit
so tell me it all again
how the bullet train felt
was the speed more remarkable
when you rode by yourself
did the buildings that built the roads
look like the ruins of Rome
was the coffee like motor oil
did one place feel like home
we arrived at the point
all the alternatives meet
we unraveled the thread
turns out it was just you and me
the bullet train glides
frictionless and so fast
passed the stops in my life
miles I can never get back
oh the way this is coming on
the way the bullet train feels
maybe I'm already gone
I've lost track of what's real
but the sound of your voice
makes any place into home
you say we don't have a choice
but I'll stay here alone
in the ruins of Rome
